My Grandfather John, on the right. My Grandmother gave me some photos she wanted enlarged when I was in Florida. They’re of my Grandfather during World War II. This is the first time I had seen pictures of him when he was younger. I look so much like him. Written on the back of this one, “Munich, Germany. October 17, 1945.

The words are never right.” - Life magazine, September 20, 1943, explained the editors’ motive in publishing a disturbingly graphic picture of three American GIs who had been gunned down on a beach in New Guinea. It was the first image of dead American servicemen that American civilians had been allowed to see in the twenty-one months since Pearl Harbor.
